Head of Transport

Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Transport to join our client's team. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing the transport function within the organization. This role requires a dynamic individual capable of managing a diverse team and ensuring exceptional service delivery to customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Staff Management: Oversee the training and development of all transport staff, ensuring new hires receive necessary training.
  • Customer Service: Ensure prompt resolution of transport-related customer service issues and maintain high service standards.
  • Incident Management: Investigate road accidents and implement preventive measures.
  • Routing and Resources: Manage routing systems and ensure the transport team is adequately resourced with drivers and helpers.
  • Outbound Logistics: Coordinate outbound loads using third-party haulage contractors.
  • Systems Management: Maintain and manage transport-related systems.
  • KPI Reporting: Prepare and present monthly KPI reports to the Senior Leadership Team, focusing on transport performance.
  • Operational Transition: Lead the transition to new operating systems, becoming the system expert and super-user.
  • Fleet Management: Collaborate with the Plant Manager to ensure vehicle availability aligns with business needs and growth plans.
  • Sales Coordination: Work with the Commercial Manager to match transport resources with targeted sales growth areas.
  • Customer Onboarding: Ensure efficient onboarding of new customers in partnership with customer service and finance teams.
  • Staffing Coordination: Liaise with HR and payroll to manage staffing levels, compliance, pay reviews, and communication.
  • Budget Management: Take ownership of transport staff financial budgets and collaborate with finance on annual budgeting and vehicle-related capex planning.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and adhere to procedures and processes, focusing on efficiency and customer retention.

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Proven experience in a transport management role.
  • Demonstrated experience with transport system implementation projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments.
  • Experience in budget management and KPI reporting.
  • Proficiency in managing transport-related systems and technology.
